Babe Ruth Visits Hotel Harrington
Betsy Tucker tells the story of when Babe Ruth visited the Hotel Harrington...
This autograph was given to my Grandmother, Dorothy Ida (Jenkins at the time) Storkey. I don't know all of the details, and, unfortunately, most of the older generations of my family are no longer here to tell me the tale. Based on some of the details of my Grandmother’s life that I am familiar with, my best guess as to the time frame of this encounter would be between 1933 and 1937.
I do remember her telling us that she happened to be in the lobby of the Harrington Hotel one day, when she looked up and saw none other than Babe Ruth, there in the same lobby! She didn’t have anything to write on, or with, so she quickly ducked into the gift shop, bought this postcard, and hurried back into the lobby, hoping he was still there. When she spotted him again, she went over to him and asked if he would mind signing the card for her, which he, obviously, was kind enough to do.
